Health Officers Association of California

Budget crisis still looms for the state.

HOAC is working every day to preserve critical funding to public health.

HOAC's legislative priorities this year include:

+ Strengthening the role of the state health officer to impact public health policy within state government

+ Maintaining state funding of public health programs

+ Increasing the public health role in the formulation of policy related to the mitigation of and adaptation to global warming

+ Increasing the opportunity for local public health departments to benefit directly from public health funding provided under the federal stimulus plan

+ Extension of the authorization for trained, unlicensed workers to place the TB skin test

+ Passage of legislation that authorizes the revision of the list of lab specimens required to be submitted to local and state labs without going through the lengthy regulatory review process

+ Support of the bill designed to prevent STD outbreaks in the adult film industry

+ Co-sponsorship of the bill regulating the body piercing industry.
